What Is The Timeline For Digital Marketing?

What is the timeline for digital marketing? This is a question that people and businesses seem to have trouble answering. Why? Because every business is different. There are also variables that need to be taken into consideration. It’s not as cut and dry as you may have hoped but we will be exploring some time frames, for different digital marketing actions, that you can use as a rule of thumb. From setup to gaining traction and beyond, each stage requires different projects be completed which all have their own time frames. Consider where you’re starting, the industry that you’re in, who your competitors are, and what your budget is.

What Is The Timeline For Digital Marketing Setup?

When it comes to digital marketing, or running a business in general, you’re going to have to have time, money, or both. Without at least one of those, how can you ever expect to get anything done? You’ll either need to do it yourself and use your time or you’ll need to hire someone to do it for you which uses your money. You must have some of these resources available. Even if you create your own digital marketing campaign, you’ll need money to run your ads. If you’re able to work on your project full time, then you can probably plan and prepare your digital marketing strategy in a few weeks and in some cases, it may take up to a few months. This is where you’ll begin thinking of your SEO, ads, social media content, and social media marketing.

What Is The Timeline For Digital Marketing Creation?

This is where it starts to get fun (we think so at least). Since you’ve finished your setup/planning, this is where you start to put your plan into action. You’ll want to write content such as blogs and press releases to help with/use in your digital marketing campaign, newsletters, social media content, and ads. Blogs should typically take 2 – 3 hours to complete and you shouldn’t be spending more than 2 hours per week to create an entire week’s worth of social media content (depending on how much graphic design is involved). Newsletters also shouldn’t take more than an hour or two to create, and depending on how detailed your ads are, those could take up to a few hours each as well. Keep in mind, if your marketing firm is creating this digital marketing campaign for you, you’ll want to remain in great communication with them. As you may have guessed, the longer it takes you to approve work/content and reply to your firm, the longer it will take for you to reach your goals. This content can usually be finished within a couple of weeks.

What about SEO?

SEO will help tremendously in your digital marketing campaign. However, SEO should be a focus of yours all the time, not just during a digital marketing campaign. To begin seeing the fruits of your labor with SEO, you can expect at least a 6-month time frame for your content to begin optimizing on search engines. The moment you put your business on the internet is when you should begin shifting some of your focus to SEO. When running your ads, plan for about a month to allow your ads to optimize to perform at their highest levels. This will become more and more finite as the ads run. Do you see how “What Is The Timeline For Digital Marketing?” doesn’t receive a straight forward answer?

You’re Finished With Creation, Now What?

Aha, so you’ve finished creating your plan and creating your content, now it’s time to put everything into action. This is where you’ll launch your campaigns landing page if you’re using one. You can easily send clients to your website as well, but you’ll usually want a separate page for them to land on for this campaign. You will begin sending out your email blasts. If you’ve created a drip campaign, which can take up to a week or more to finish, you’ll begin sending out/scheduling those emails. You will schedule these emails accordingly to fit with your initial plan. You’ll also want to distribute articles, blogs, or press releases that you’ve created to help jump start your campaign. You will publish and schedule your social media posts for your campaign and update your social media headers along with your website headers. Essentially, everyone who sees your website, social media pages, and reads your content should be able to easily tell what it is your current marketing campaign is all about. After all, that’s the point, right? Once your campaign is running, you’ll begin collecting information. This will take a few weeks, at least, and be an ongoing task to monitor your campaign and adjust.

So How Long Is The Timeline For Digital Marketing?

We’ve gone over a lot in a short amount of time. As you can see, there’s more that goes into digital marketing than you may have realized, but that’s okay! Because even if it sounds like a lot of work, which it is, from planning, to creation, and putting it into effect you shouldn’t be looking at more than a few months to have everything ready to go. Depending on your knowledge, if you’re using a firm, and how much time or money you have, this whole process can take anywhere from a month to a couple of months. We cannot stress this enough, one huge factor for your timeframe will be your communication. You must communicate with your firm if you want to stick to your timeline.
