What is Adobe Photoshop?
Adobe Photoshop is a digital image editing software that’s part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite. It allows you to make general adjustments to your images, as well as local changes. You can work with layers to edit and manipulate your pictures. It is not only suitable for photo editing but also digital drawing and design.
It is the most widely used editing programs for photography, alongside Light room. The reason for this is that it has a wide variety of tools. It is hard to find a collection of Photoshop tutorials covering everything, from the basics to the advanced adjustments. One article can’t do justice to the programmer’s extensive features.
How do you use Photoshop?
Find the perfect image for your project. You can search for this using Envato Elements or Adobe Stock. Open Photoshop and click the Search icon (magnifying glass). In the Search field, type a search term. Click the image you wish to use, and the libraries panel will open with a watermarked preview of the image. Or if you are using Envato Elements to find your image, once you found what you’re looking for, click download, save it under the file you are working for or on. Then got to your folders and extract the file you just downloaded, click on this when finished extracting and open the PSD File. This will then open your Image right into Adobe Photoshop.
Saving Transparent Background Images
If you are selecting the PNG format, then ensure that the “Transparency” checkbox is always ticked. After selecting the format, click on the “Export” button to save the image. When you right click on Layer 0, you can also click on the “Quick Export as PNG” option to save the picture as a PNG file.
For Creating Logos
Some logo creators make use of the subjects in the photos as their logos. In such cases, you will have to remove the whole background from the picture to get a transparent image with the subject alone.
Resizing and Resolution
Understanding resolution is a vital part of getting started with Design. The resolution you choose depends on the final use of the image. Posting on social media? You will need to resize your images according to the site’s guidelines. Are you thinking of wall art? You will have to resize it according to the size of the print.
How to Use Photoshop Tools
Selection Tools
To best learn how to use Photoshop, you need to work with layers. You can create new layers, add infinite adjustments, and drag photos into the program and keep building your layers.
To make sure you are working with the right part of the right layer, selection tools are helpful. But, like everything else in Photoshop, there are many selection tools. There are so many settings concerning them that it is easy to get lost in the system.
Gradient Tool
By default, you can fill a single color in an image. But to make the image creative, you need to use some gradients in the image. The gradient tool is present in Photoshop to apply multiple colors in an image. To use the gradient, right click on the paint bucket tool from the toolbox. From the options select the Gradient tool.
Then, click on the screen from where you want to start the gradient and without releasing the mouse button, drag the cursor to the point you want the gradient to apply. After reaching the ending point, release the cursor. You will see the gradient applied successfully.
Elliptical Marquee
This tool selects ellipses and circles. To select an elliptical area you should:
1. Select the Elliptical marquee tool from the Toolbox by clicking on the icon The Elliptical marquee tool , or (if the Elliptical marquee was not the last tool applied) select it from the floating window.
2. Bring the mouse cursor to the point of the image where the corner of an imaginary rectangle with an inscribed ellipse should be, and press the left button.
3. Keeping the left button pressed, move the cursor diagonally to the opposite corner and release the button.
To select a circular area of the image make a selection keeping the Shift key pressed. Take into account that if you already have a selected area the new selection will be added to the previous one. To avoid it you should press the Shift key only when you start selecting a new area.
